“Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” Psalms 37:5
Hello friends,
This email is coming to you from a new platform called Substack. I’ve tried to make this transition behind the scenes without you needing to do a thing, and I think I’ve accomplished it.
You might want to download the Substack app for easier access, but it’s not required to receive emails, blog posts, and podcasts.
Yes, I said podcasts!
Beginning in a few weeks, I’ll be back behind a microphone and will bring you weekly podcasts again under a new name: Committed Way Podcast. If you are subscribed to the Pulpit to Pew Podcast, you should already be subscribed to the new podcast!
All podcast episodes will be hosted here on Substack under the new website: www.committedway.com.
Will The New Podcast Be Different?
Initially, no. I plan to post at least one episode per week from me behind a microphone teaching from the Bible and another episode taken from a live recording of the Adult Bible Study class I teach on Sunday mornings.
I plan to start a series around the name of this new podcast in December!
Why December? I’ll explain in the first episode. 😁
Will I Be Writing More?
I hope so! I want to. I’ve thought about it daily for the past five years. I write privately, but I’m always hesitant to put stuff out there. If I’m honest, I also have had a hard time making the time to write.
I hope to get back to writing devotionals for our church; if I do, I’ll post those on this new website.
Enough Announcements – Here’s a thought for this week.
I’ve never been a guy who gives many loud “Amens” at church.
I will say "Amen" when a point in the sermon hits home with my heart, but my introverted mind gets a bit nervous about hollering it out. When I say it, I feel like it’s loud, but I doubt people with even decent hearing three rows away can hear it.
I remember one service up in Michigan. I gave a louder-than-intentional “Amen” and immediately broke out in an uncontrollable sweat. I have no idea why! Everything was fine. I was still quiet compared to some I’d heard, but my introverted mind flipped out and unleashed the beads of sweat.
Well, this morning, my dad’s first point got some “Amens” and nearly a few loud ones. 😁
His point wasn’t groundbreaking, but it’s a principle we often overlook about God’s Will.
Here’s what I wrote in my notes:
Much of God’s Will takes place in the ordinary moments of life.
Tomorrow, I’ll wake up and go to work as I do on any ordinary day. In that ordinary day are opportunities to do God’s Will.
I can read my Bible.
I can pray.
I can be kind to others.
I can work honestly
I can work hard as unto the Lord.
The list could go on and on. These are not flashy God’s Will moments that we testify about to friends and family, but they are essential.
If we can’t obey God’s Will in the ordinary, why should He trust us with the bigger picture of His plan?
It’s as we obey in the ordinary that He guides us and reveals answers to the bigger questions we have about His Will.
To tie this to our new name, I’d ask you this.
Are you willing to “commit” to obeying God in the ordinary moments of life?
The only way to know how to obey in the ordinary is to dig into God’s Word, and I hope you’ll join me on the podcast this next year as we do that very thing.
I’m excited for this next year.
Do you have any goals or commitments for the new year?
